FAQs

  • Having a good fit between the client and the counsellor is crucial for achieving successful and effective treatment outcomes. I offer a 30-minute no obligation consultation for clients.

The $50 fee for this session is non-refundable, however, if the client decides to move forward with counselling services, this fee will goo towards the payment of their next session.

Subsequent therapy sessions are typically 60 minutes. It includes 50 minutes of direct counselling time and 10 minutes of indirect therapy time (e.g., notes, phone calls).

Please note, client-requested or third-arty consultations with other professionals may result in additional fees and paper work required.

There are also 75 - minute sessions available for booking if you would prefer more time in session.

  • Research shows that one of the most significant contributing factors in therapy is the relationship between the client and the therapist. Also known as the therapeutic alliance. As such, the first session is typically about finding out whether we are a right fit - on both ends.

I want to be sure that you feel comfortable with me, and I want to ensure that I can meet your needs and that your presenting concerns are not beyond my scope of expertise. If I believe I am not the best counsellor for you, I will assist you in finding one who is.

During the first session I will ask you about what brought you to counselling and what you hope to get out of counselling. Additionally, I will want to learn a bit about you and your life and will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions you have about me.

  • I don’t typically prescribe how often you should attend counselling. I leave the frequency up to the client as that decision requires several factors.

Most of my clients either book weekly or bi-weekly, however, it really depend on your specific needs and what you can afford.

  • Your appointment time is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a hole in the therapists’ day that could have been filled by another client. As such, the client must provide 48 hours’ notice for any cancellation or changes to their appointment. Clients who provide less than 48 hours notice will be charged a cancellation fee of $100 to the card on file.

Clients who provide less than 24 hours notice, or mis their appointment, will be charged the full fee of $200. Cancellations can be done through my online booking system, or you can notify me directly via email.

  • Most insurance companies mandate which professionals are approved to provide therapeutic counselling services.

As a Canadian Certified Counsellor wit the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, I am committed to providing quality services to the client.

Canadian certification is a national service that identifies to the public those counsellors who CCPA recognizes as qualified to provide counselling services in Canada. Obtaining the status of Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) includes recognition of standards of professional preparation, continuing education, and a formal code of ethics.

You may be able to claim services through Blue Cross, Manlike, Sun Life (Public Services HCP), Canada Life, Green Shield Canada, and Desjardins Insurance.

Insurance companies that have a “Health Spending Account” and other policies or EAPs, may also cover a portion of counselling services depending on the exact policy you hold.
